In development, v0.4.0Coming to Modrinth

Progress

0 of 6 roadmap features done. Goal: Make the world feel inhabited and dangerous.

A Sentinel is an armoured machine head with a cluster of red eyes and ten segmented tentacles. Near the ground all ten are legs: each one finds solid footing and steps on its own, half of them at a time, over slopes, steps and drops. High in the air, every tentacle swims like a squid.

A lone Sentinel runs at you as fast as you can sprint, and flies faster when you take to the air. Three or more together become a swarm that roams the sky as a loose, churning flock, then surrounds its prey and takes turns diving in to strike.

Roadmap features

  • Sentinel Swarms Partly done

Three or more Sentinels form a swarm: they roam together in the air, keep their distance, surround their prey and dive in two at a time.

  • Patrol Systems Planned

  • Hive Structures Planned

  • Machine Drones Planned

  • Tunnel Guardians Planned

  • Machine AI Partly done

Sentinels walk or fly depending on their height, run at sprint speed on foot, fly up to Elytra speed, and strike with their tentacles.

Known issues

  • Not done yet

    Legs only stand on floors

The legs find the ground below them. Walking on walls and ceilings is planned.

    Placeholder sounds and no drops

Sentinels use vanilla sounds for now and drop nothing when destroyed.

Changelog

  1. v0.4.0
    • All ten tentacles now walk, and the body follows the terrain so every foot reaches the ground.
    • Slower and fairer: sprint speed on foot, up to Elytra speed (72 km/h) in the air.
    • Rebuilt swarms: they roam the area together, keep their distance, surround their prey and dive in two at a time.
  2. v0.3.0
    • Walking or flying now depends on height above the ground, not on whether the Sentinel is hunting.
    • Legs search harder for footing (steps, drops, slopes), so they stay on the ground.
    • Much faster: chases at 8.4 blocks/s and speeds up to keep pace with fast targets, up to 144 km/h.
    • Swarms: three or more Sentinels flock together, share targets and circle their prey.
  3. v0.2.0
    • Rebuilt the Sentinel from scratch: new 3D model with glowing eyes and ten clawed tentacles.
    • Six legs plant on real blocks and step in a tripod gait; the arms strike over the body.
    • Hovering flight that syncs to every player, natural spawns in Desert of the Real, and a spawn egg.
    • Project started: Sentinel prototype with procedural legs and flight.
